The most significant result of the Stamp Act was the formation of organized opposition.
Throughout the colonies, organizations became known as the Son's of Liberty. At some point
every colony had at least one group that referred to itself by that name.
The British had assigned stamp distributors to the American colonies and these unfortunate
people became the targets of colonial opposition. Often the stamp distributors experienced
the violence of colonial mobs. Sometimes their homes were burned and many of the distributors
were forced to resign. Much of the violent activity was promoted by the Son's of Liberty.

politicians, and other educated individuals began to discuss liberty and rebellion. After all,
the early American settlers had crossed an ocean to obtain freedom from European kings and aristocrats.
